Claudie
Cares

The manufacturing stages of our products (raw materials, transformation into yarn and fabric, and dyeing) are responsible for most of the environmental impacts connected to our activity. This question is therefore a logical priority in our approach to sustainable development.

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the consumption of water, the use of chemicals or polluting emissions are all subjects that we address through the use of environmental criteria to increase the use of raw materials and/or transformation processes that have less environmental impact.

A LONG-TERM MISSION

At Claudie Pierlot, we carry this promise with modesty and resolve, and do everything we can to change our ways of producing and distributing.
This was the basis for the birth of the Claudie Cares project.

The criteria of this project are based on a selection of independent labels, materials or manufacturing techniques whose environmental benefits are based on real and public data.

CLAUDIE CARE PRODUCTS

Claudie Cares products are made from materials and/or transformation processes that are more environmentally sustainable.
We consider a product to be more responsible if it meets one or more of these criteria:

  • At least 50% of its main material comes from organic farming, is recycled or meets ecosystem preservation criteria (forests, pastures, etc.).

  • Its washing is carried out using EIM (Environmental Impact Measuring) technology for denim garments, saving 95% of water versus a classic washing technique.

  • The leather tannery complies with industry best environmental practices.

80%
in 2025

This is our objective for the Claudie Cares offer in all our collections.

Claudie Cares products have a main material whose eco-friendly characteristics are certified by independent organisations and/or are manufactured using processes that have been optimised with respect to traditional processes.

01
LEATHER

We are members of the Leather Working Group (LWG), an initiative that certifies tanneries that meet industry best practices for water, energy and chemical use. All the leather used for our ready-to-wear pieces comes from Silver or Gold certified tanneries, the two most demanding levels of this certification. Soon, this will also be the case for all our accessories.

02
WOOL

Some Claudie Cares products are made with wool labels that are ecosystem preservation certified, thanks to pastures that respect the soil and biodiversity, as well as animal welfare. These are Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) for sheep's wool and Responsible Mohair Standard (RMS) for mohair wool.

03
RECYCLED MATERIALS

Recycled materials are more virtuous from an environmental point of view as they preserve natural resources. We use recycled materials whenever we can, such as cotton and polyester, to replace virgin materials and which are certified according to the GRS or RCS labels.

04
COTTON FROM ORGANIC FARMING

The choice of organically farmed cotton, certified according to the GOTS or OCS labels, is a choice that is both more ethical and ecological. From seed to harvest of the flower, it is grown without pesticides, insecticides or chemical fertilisers, and without GMOs. Its cultivation respects ecosystems, does not deplete the soil, consumes less water than conventional cotton and is not toxic for producers.

05
SUSTAINABLE
FOREST MANAGEMENT

The viscose, acetate or triacetate used in the manufacture of Claudie Cares products come from cellulose extracted from wood from sustainably managed forests.

06
LINEN

European linen certified by the European Flax or Master of Linen labels is a material whose already low carbon footprint is made even smaller, thanks to local processing and traceability subject to strict standards guaranteed by the label. Indeed, the majority of world linen production occurs in Europe because this plant requires a humid and oceanic climate.

A RELATIONSHIP OF TRANSPARENCY WITH OUR CUSTOMERS

We want to advance with complete transparency, which is why we have partnered with Fairly Made, an independent French company founded by two women.

From now on, by scanning the QR code of our products, it is possible to access information relating to each stage of their manufacture: origin of raw materials, processing and clothing factories, number of kilometres travelled... the fact sheet reveals the story of each product.

This QR code is affixed to more than a hundred references from the Winter 2022 collection.

WE SAID NO

To exotic leathers* and ornamental feathers. There is, in our opinion, currently no sufficiently rigorous label to control these productions. We do not order these materials from our suppliers.

*We continue to use leather and wool skins when they are co-products of food (cow, sheep, pig, etc.), which makes it possible to convert waste into a sustainable natural material..
All the leather used for the ready-to-wear pieces of our E23 collection comes from LWG Silver or Gold certified tanneries.

**As part of our Claudie Cares programme, we encourage the use of recycled materials from tack garments made by our suppliers in order to repurpose them into quality fabrics suitable for our collections. As a consequence of this process, some of these materials may have minimal traces of other fibres.

OUR DENIM

We were introduced to an innovative washing process by one of our suppliers. Its machines, which consume much less water, allow us to manufacture denim with a reduced environmental impact. The savings? Up to 95% less water used, depending on the degree of washing, compared to the traditional process.

Today, all our jeans are made from organic cotton or recycled cotton, and have been produced using optimised washing processes.

TRUE PARISIAN ROOTS

All Claudie Pierlot collections are designed in our Paris workshops. We make the prototypes for most of our models in our design studio, which is where we draw our exclusive motifs and develop our patterns. This lets us showcase our French savoir faire, expertise, and unique vision, providing real added value. To go from design to production, we use the best suppliers from all over the world.

PRODUCTION
FROM THE BEST SUPPLIERS

52% of the Winter 22 models are manufactured or sourced in the Europe-Mediterranean zone. We are always eager to take advantage of high-quality expertise. All of our Winter 22 shoes are manufactured in Portugal, a country which is known for its expertise in this area. For certain specific skills, such as knitwear from China, means some models are made in Asia. We give preference to maritime and road transport, air transport representing less than 8% of the quantities transported.

We are signatories to the United Nations Global Compact.

As a responsible actor, we have formalised our requirements with our suppliers, particularly in the area of human rights, through our General Purchasing Conditions and our Supplier Code of Conduct. By signing these documents, our suppliers undertake to respect, and to ensure that their subcontractors respect, all the clauses of these documents. Our requirements on all ethical subjects are shared through our Ethics Charter. We regularly conduct audits through an independent third party expert to ensure compliance with commitments. Each season, our Claudie Pierlot teams also travel to ensure the quality of manufacturing and to maintain trust-based relationships with our suppliers, some of which have lasted over a decade.

In addition to the usual channels of communication, Claudie Pierlot stakeholders may send an email to ethics@smcp.com to report violations of laws, breaches of their security, regulations or internal principles of conduct in a confidential and secure manner.

MORE VIRTUOUS MANAGEMENT
OF OUR UNSOLD PRODUCTS

A law prohibiting the destruction of unsold goods came into force at the end of 2019. A process that we had already begun before it became a legal obligation.

Unsold items are offered in our outlet shops or entrusted to our destocking partners, then donated to charitable associations. For example, we support the fight against AIDS, the advancement of breast cancer research and the reintegration of women into the workforce. Historical commitments with organisations that we support over the long term.

WOMEN AT THE HEART OF OUR COMMITMENTS

Claudie Pierlot is the embodiment of a woman, creative, independent and free. So it is only natural that 85% of the company's employees are women - including in management and executive positions.

OUR ASSOCIATIVE COMMITMENTS

Claudie Pierlot recognises the importance of entering into partnerships that place women at the centre of their concerns. This is why we work with organisations such as ASAO, UNESCO, TOUTES À L'ÉCOLE and ANNO'S Africa.

PRINCIPLE OF REALITY

01

We undertake not to use the term nude to refer to a single colour, because there are as many nude shades as there are complexions.

02

We encourage the recruitment of employees of all nationalities, socio-economic backgrounds, cultures, ages, religions, genders and sexual orientations and people with visible and invisible disabilities. We also support their development within the company through training tailored to each job.

03

We seek diversity in the casting of our campaigns and in the profiles of the influencers we work with.
